Central Limit Theorem
A mathematical theorem that states, for any set of independent random variates with finite variance, that the cumulative distribution function of a normalized (scaled) sum of such variates approaches the cumulative distribution function for a normal distribution, as the number of variates increases. Under certain circumstance, the theorem states that the width of the central region of the associated probability distribution function narrows, and approaches zero, as the number of random trials (variants) increases and that the shape (of the central region) of the PDF approaches a normal PDF as the number of trials increases. If all variates are from a single uncorrelated random process, the theorem states that variance decreases as 1/sqrt(n) where n is the number of trials. Since each video poker hand is independent of all other hands, and since video poker's variance is finite, The Central Limit Theorem holds for all video poker, and the variance scales as 1/sqrt(n), where n is the number of hands. However, at the same time, the total bet or coin-in has been increasing proportional to n. Thus the variance in real units (dollars) increases without limit as the player continues to gamble.

Class III Gaming
card games played against the house, slot machines, dog and horse racing, jai alai, and all other types of casino gaming. The National Indian Gaming Commission's (NIGC's) authority includes review and approval of Class III Gaming management contracts. Class III gaming is regulated by compacts negotiated between tribes and states. (IRS.gov)
Cycle
Defined as one over the probability of receiving a certain hand or payout. In video poker, the Cycle is therefore expressed in units of hands (or deals). Perhaps because of this, the term Cycle is commonly misused and many players erroneously expect to receive a certain hand once per cycle. A cycle represents the number hands it will take on average for a certain outcome. A player may of course receive any number of such hands in a cycle (from 0 to the cycle length).
Full-pay
Originally a term used to distinguish the first version of a particular game (to commonly appear), which was subsequently replaced by a similar game with a lower return. Today, the Full-pay designation refers to a particular pay table for a game and does not indicate if higher or lower returning variants are common. To avoid confusion, game return and pay table should be used to distinguish games.

Gap
Referring to the missing card or cards in an inside straight. When there is one missing card, it is a single Gap and when there are two, it is a double Gap. A double Gap inside straight can produce only a single straight. One the other hand a single Gap three card inside straight draw can produce up to three different straights. Often a terminal single Gap inside straight draw (a hand containing an ace) is treated as a double gap since only one straight can be drawn.

RFB
A term used to describe a comp level, usual short for "Room, Food & Beverage" or "Room and Full Board". Typically, a player is brought in on an RFB comp (rather than earning it during a trip). The RFB applies only to what a pre-determined number of people (say 2) might consume and covers only what might be charged to a casino hotel room. However, some common items, such as telephone calls and spa charges are rarely covered by RFB.
Royal Flush
Poker hand comprising the ten, jack, queen, king and ace of one suit (in any order). For most draw video poker games, the probability of a natural (no wild card) Royal Flush is approximately 1/45,000. For example:
Sequential Royal Flush
A royal flush in which the cards appear in numerical order. Some video poker games pay a bonus for a Sequential Royal Flush-- and for some of these the order (ascending or descending) might matter.
Slot Day
The period of time a casino considers a single gaming day. Typically, the Slot Day day differs from the normal day and typically begins early in the morning rather than at midnight (perhaps to correspond with a shift change). The Slot Day is used (not the date) for comp rating purposes. At many casinos, the date on the W2-G is also based on the Slot Day, so that a jackpot won just after midnight on New Years is reported for "last year"
Slot machine
any mechanical, electrical or other device, contrivance or machine which, upon insertion of a coin, token or similar object, or upon payment of any consideration, is available to play or operate, the play or operation of which, whether by reason of the skill of the operator in playing a gambling game which is presented for play by the machine or application of the element of chance, or both, may deliver or entitle the person playing or operating the machine to receive cash, premiums, merchandise, tokens or any thing of value, whether the payoff is made automatically from the machine or in any other manner. Wheel Poker
A video poker game in which the wagering of a sixth coin (assuming the base game is a five coin max game) triggers a new mode that gives the player a bonus whenever there is a (natural) four of a kind. The average bonus is approximately 428 units, and it increases the return (relative to the base game) of all video poker games except for (most) wild card games, such as Deuces Wild. The Wheel Poker feature increases the variance of games and necessitates strategy changes to achieve the best return.
