The Coupon Craze promotion at the Cal Neva - one of my favorite, fun, low roller plays over the past six months or so - has been downgraded again just this week. 1. The quad bonus coupon that paid a nice bonus for any quad has been downgraded to a one time Card of the Day bonus that pays a flat $10 for only the card of the day, one use only. It's hardly worth playing now, unless you happen to be there anyway. 2. The $1.99 Big Win breakfast deal is now just a $1 off coupon (making it a $2.99 Big Win breakfast). 3. The former $4.99 steak dinner is now just a $1 off any Top Deck dinner (or $2 off a Copper Ledge dinner) coupon. The coupon sheet still has the $5 match play, 5 free keno games and a couple of other items. It's still worth picking up if you happen to be down there playing anyway, but it's no longer worth a special trip to pick up and play.

It's reported on bj21.com that the 10/7 DB on the 50/100 plays has been shorted to 9/6 and the 8/5 super aces to 6/5.

I really enjoy the Cal Neva and spend a fair amount of time there, but it is, to be generous, a bit of a seedy dive. Now frankly, I think that's part of its charm (for me, anyway). I get a kick out of the fact that cocktail service can be slow, the machines are sometimes in a state of disrepair, the clientele can be a bit - oh – eclectic, and you can count on a fight breaking out at the 3rd floor sports bar nearly every Saturday night. That's balanced by the fact that they have good video poker, Cashback, and (selectively) good blackjack games. Still, when you compare it to a Silver Legacy, a Peppermill or an Atlantis it suffers pretty much by comparison.
